The Epic Story of Central Asian Amazon Women Warriors
QYRQ QYZ is about WOMAN POWER. Enduring for centuries in a male-dominated epic tradition, this powerful matriarchal narrative comes to life in an avant-garde multimedia concert. Young virtuosic female bards from Central Asia come to Stowe for a three-day residency.
The Qyrq Qyz troupe will make various appearances and performances during their residency here in Stowe. Please see events below, including the public concert on Saturday, March 10 at 7pm.

A discussion with Uzbek film director Saodat Ismailova, Kazakh musician Raushan Orazbaeva, and Dartmouth music professor Theodore Levin on Central Asian Women in the Arts, featuring excerpts from Saodat’s feature film, “40 Days of Silence.” Panel discussion is free and open to the public. A musical score weaves back and forth from the film soundtrack to live performance featuring the fierce voices and virtuosic instrumental music of young female bards who sing, recite epic poetry, and play instruments. The performance creates a bridge between traditional and contemporary worlds of material and spiritual culture. Recommended for ages 10+.
